Research
The North Jersey Community Research Initiative (NJCRI), founded in 1988, has been a trailblazer in clinical and behavioral research in Newark and across northern New Jersey. From its early days, NJCRI championed access to clinical trials for individuals living with HIV, offering hope and innovative treatment options during the most challenging years of the epidemic.
Over the decades, NJCRI has grown into a powerhouse of medical and behavioral health research, producing groundbreaking publications, sharing insights on global stages, and delivering comprehensive care that spans prevention programs, substance use treatment, and more in the international and national settings. The organization is deeply rooted in the community, driving research that matters—whether it’s advancing prevention, championing hepatitis C elimination, or expanding access to healthcare.
Today, NJCRI is more than a research organization—it’s a beacon of hope, empowerment, and innovation. Through compassionate care, bold advocacy, and cutting-edge health and social services, NJCRI continues to transform lives, uplift communities, and make a lasting impact locally, nationally, and around the globe.
What is Research?
Research is a process:
-
Systematic inquiry
-
Collection of data
-
Documentation of critical information
-
Analysis and interpretation of that data/information.
-
Dissemination of your outcomes and findings
Clinical Trials:
-
Medical Trials
-
Behavioral Trials
-
Explores new testing methods
-
Tests new medical treatment trials
-
Evaluate their effects on human health outcomes and behavioral outcomes
Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR)
-
Collaborative research approach where community members, researchers, service providers, consumers, government representatives, funders, and other stakeholders join together
-
Evaluate the research process with the aim to improve conditions in their communities.
Behavioral Surveillance:
-
Public health Surveillance/Mapping
-
Systematic and ongoing collection of data about risk and health-related behaviors
-
Correlating trends in behaviors with changes in disease over time.
Evaluation and Data Analysis:
Quantitative data analysis:
-
Using Statistical methods to describe, summarize, and compare data.
-
Plan the analysis before the collection of data
-
ensure that your data will be meaningful and useful.
-
Determine your focus. Consider the purpose of your evaluation.
Evaluation and Data Analysis:
Qualitative data analysis
-
Identification, examination, and interpretation of patterns and themes in textual data.
-
Determines how patterns and themes help answer the research questions.
-
Findings are likely to change and adapt as the study evolves and the data emerges.
