NJCRI Celebrates 15th Anniversary

Surrounded by enthusiastic friends, including: NJCRI Co-Founders, corporate partners, members of the New Jersey Assembly, Newark Officials, funders and donors, the North Jersey Community Research Initiative (NJCRI) celebrated its 15th Anniversary. This special event, held at the Newark Club, was a celebration of the growth, vitality and mission of NJCRI.

From its humble beginnings, NJCRI has become the largest community based HIV research unit in the metropolitan New York, New Jersey area and provider of the most comprehensive HIV services in New Jersey.

	Gabriella Morris, President of the Prudential Foundation, received the Corporate Partner Award from Bill Orr, Executive Director of NJCRI. The Prudential Foundation, which provided NJCRI with its first grant in 1988, has continued to supply both financial and in-kind support to NJCRI over the years.
	Ed Martone, Vice Chair of NJCRI’s Board of Trustees, presented awards to Assemblymen William Payne and Eric Muñoz, MD for their leadership in Co-Prime Sponsoring Assembly Bill A.2178. This bill, if funded, would provide NJCRI with $1 million in capital support for construction of its new HIV Health facility in Newark.
The centerpiece of the evening was the recognition of NJCRI’s Co-founders. These unsung heroes provided the leadership and vision which helped NJCRI become what it is today. NJCRI’s co-founders include: Jeffrey Bomser—In Memorium, Estelle Greenberg, George Hanley, Jeffrey Kocher, MD, Donald Louria, MD, Ed Martone, Marsha McGowan, MPH, Steven Weisholtz, MD, Anita Vaughn, MD, Nina Regevik, MD, Christine M. Reyelt, MD, Elena Perez, MT, George Perez, MD, Joan Skurnick, PhD, Hugh Segner, Robert Sproul, Gary Stein, JD, Terry Zealand, PhD and Faye Zealand.
