Project WOW CAB Meeting - Saturday, February 13th, 2010 from  3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at NJCRI

 

Live Healthy, Live Happy Workshop - Starting Tuesday, Jan. 12th, 2010  from 4:00 - 6:30 p.m. at NJCRI.

Learn new ways to help deal with issues caused by many chronic conditions.   This six-session weekly workshop will help you deal with depression, eat more nutritiously, control pain, fight fatigue and frustration, manage stress and relax, communicate better with health providers, solve problemss, meet personal goals, start an exercise program and much more.

Session dates: Jan. 12th, 19th, 26th, Feb. 2nd, 9th, and 16th, 2010 from 4:00 - 6:30 p.m. at NJCRI.

Mental Health, HIV and Substance Abuse - Friday, February 26th, 2010  from 9:30 - 4:00 p.m. at Broadway House.

An opportunity for networking with peers will be provided to participants. 

Keynote Speaker: R. Douglas Bruce, MD, MA, MSc, Medical Director of South Central Rehabilitation Center.

Panelists: Dr. Tobe Onuga, Ca Misha Hill, LMSW, LSW, and Mark Canning, APRN
Panelists will be presenting on Mental Health and Addiction, and HIV and Mental Health.

Highlights

  • United We Stand Night of Outreach
    The United We Stand Night of Outreach project conducts street outreach to injection drug users, sex workers, gay men and other individuals at high risk for HIV infection during non-traditional hours (usually evenings). This outreach is conducted by saturating an area known to have high concentration of persons at risk for HIV (i.e. housing projects and areas where drugs are used or sold). Outreach is conducted by a coalition of HIV/AIDS service providers and other community based outreach organizations. Outreach by multiple agencies has been shown to be more effective and can be conducted safely in areas normally "off limits" to outreaach.  For more information call Vernon Thomas at (973) 483-3444 x 203.

 

  • Free GED, literacy, ESL and Spanish GED Coursed for NJCRI Clients
    NJCRI has met with representatives of the Newark Board of Education and hope to have them conduct free GED, literacy, ESL and Spanish GED courses in our building for our clients.  For more information, email a.williams@njcri.org

 

  • Support Groups
    The support groups are: Men's, Women's, Double Trouble (HIV/Substance Abuse Issues), Alternative Live Styles (LGBTQ), Hispanic (Spanish Speaking), and Treatment Adherence.  Each group session is held weekly from noon to 2:00 p.m. and a light meal is served.  Please call for the scheduled at (973) 483-3444.
