HIV Care and Treatment Services

The NJCRI Care and Treatment Services seeks to empower people infected or affected by HIV/AIDS to live healthy, productive, and independent lives.  We pride ourselves on providing one-stop shopping service for medical care and needed services listed below.

For those people residing outside of Essex County, information and referrals are made to service organizations in their county of residence.

Care and Treatment services include:

Primary Medical Care

We provide onsite primary medical care to People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and refer all patients, as appropriate, for specialty medical care.  Our standard of care consists of a multi-disciplined approach and utilizing professional staff, physicians and Nurse Practitioners (NP), nurses, social workers, a nutritionist, mental health and substance abuse counselor and medical case managers.

Behavioral Services

Psychiatry provides evaluations, consultation and therapy for HIV+ clients with serious disorders.

Mental Health Counseling / Education provide therapy and counseling to individuals, couples and families.

Substance Abuse Counseling / Education is provided through individual and group counseling.

Medical Nutrition Counseling / Education

Nutritionist works closely with our medical team to evaluate each client's unique nutritional needs and develop a personalized food plan.

Food Pantry

Food is distributed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays of each week.  Food vouchers and food bags are also available.

Treatment Adherence (TA) Counseling / Education

Our Primary Care RN provides counseling to all HIV+ clients to help them successfully manage their illness and medications.  We also conduct TA supports for groups on Mondays at 2:00 p.m.

Medical Transportation Services

Clients can secure transportation to and from medical appointments with our NJCRI van.

Direct Emergency Assistance (DEA) Programs

NJCRI assists clients in meeting their financial obligations.  Emergency assistance can be given to help with telephone and utilities bills.

Support Groups

The support groups are: Men's, Women's, Double Trouble (HIV/Substance Abuse Issues), Alternative Life Styles (LGBTQ), Hispanic (Spanish Speaking) and Treatment Adherence.  Each group session is held weekely from noon to 2:00 p.m., and a light meal is served.  Please call for the scheduled at (973) 483-3444.

Medical Case Management (MCM) Services

Clients/patients who present with multiple medical and psychosocial concerns are enrolled in our MCM division.  Services include: coordination of medical and supportive care, comprehensive assessment, client/patient advocacy, information and referral to appropriate community resources, home visits and accompanying clients to medical appointments when necessary.
